First time taking a sleeper train and had read mixed reviews.
In the end, it was easy, clean and an adventure. It's basic but if you're wanting to prevent clocking up cost and your carbon footprint then it's the way to travel.
We were fortunate to have the 4 berth cabin to ourselves for the first 4 hours (so we could sit around comfortably) before taking up position on the top bunk when other passengers joined us - maybe if we hadn't had that luxury my feelings would be different... but of course I could have booked a carriage just for the 2 of us if I'd had any real concerns.
Waking up to light snoring and someone eating noodle soup was part of the local experience... which was one of my original reasons to book the sleeper train in the first place!
Me and my family (to kids ages 6 and 9) traveled with night train from Hanoi to Hue. We had a cabin for four, and it was fine. The cabin was clean and there were water and snacks. There were a bit noise from the outside of the cabin and also som bumps every time the train stopped at stations. But we al slept alright.
The staff was friendly though they didn’t spoke much English. They helped us finding our cabin, though we got another cabin (beds) because ours were already taken - so that was not a problem.
Nice ride with this train. Cabin and facilities were pretty clean. Fine breakfast included, so was water and a few snacks. The staff takes care of notifying the arrival 20 minutes before arriving at the chosen station.
Departure on time, arrival only a few minutes late despite an accident in Hanoi
