About the ride from Nusa Penida to Nusa Lembongan
After rustic Nusa Penida, its little sister island, Nusa Lembongan, will be a welcome change. Yes, it's a little more bougie, but who doesn't like a little hipster-boho-Bali-chic vibe every once in a while?
Plus, you've been staring at it all this time, so you might as well spend a few days there. Good thing, it's crazy-easy to get between the two.
There is only one way to get between the two Nusa islands, and it's not swimming. But close. It's a ferry. And it's a whopping 15 minutes long. You can have a beer in hand before you can say Nusa Lembongan.
Ready? Let's do this…
Five must-do experiences in Nusa Lembongan
For a tiny island, Nusa Lembongan packs a serious punch. Whether you're after laid-back vibes or something a little more adventurous, here's what you don't want to skip:
Beach-hop your way around the island. This place is a beach lover's dream. Carve out some time to lounge, swim, and explore the island's top stretches of sand. Start at the ever-popular Dream Beach, then make your way north to Jungutbatu Beach for a more local feel.
Catch a wave. This is a prime spot to sharpen your surfing skills. Total newbie? Sign up for a surf lesson. There are waves for every level.
Chase epic viewpoints. The views here are next level, so don't forget to stop and take it all in. Devil's Tears is a dramatic cliffside spot where waves crash against the rocks (hello, photo op!). Or head over to Sunset Point for, you guessed it, front-row seats to the sunset show.
Glide through mangrove forests. Trade the beach for something a little different and hop on a boat tour through the peaceful mangroves in the island's north. It's the perfect way to slow down, soak up the scenery, and maybe even spot some wildlife.
Snorkel with the locals (fish, that is). The underwater scene around Nusa Lembongan is just as stunning as the land. Book a snorkel trip, and you'll find colorful coral reefs, tropical fish, and, if luck's on your, erm, snorkel, manta rays.
For DIY types, you can even snorkel straight from the sand at places like Dream Beach or the tucked-away Secret Beach (pro tip: access it via the rock path from Mushroom Beach).
How to get from Nusa Penida to Nusa Lembongan
A 15-minute ferry is the only way to get between these two islands. For the budget price tag of $5, you can trade islands in less time than it takes to eat dinner.
The ferries depart about a dozen times a day, starting around 8 a.m., with the last one at 5 p.m.
Wanderlust Fast Cruise departs from the FUNTASEA Resto & Bar and arrives at the Yellow Bridge Port.
Trans Nusa Bahari takes off from the Toya Pakeh Harbour and lands at their own port on Nusa Lembongan.
Life jackets are provided, and you can bring two bags onboard.
Although short-lived, the views from the ferry are pretty striking, so sit outside (if you can) and take it all in.
When is the best time to travel to Nusa Lembongan?
For the perfect balance of sunshine, clear waters, and outdoor adventures, aim for the dry season from May to October. It's warm but not scorching, and you'll get all the sun you need for beach days. Plus, with less rain, the island's stunning scenery, including the underwater scenery, will be in full view.
If you can't avoid traveling in the rainy season (November to April), be prepared for the occasional downpour. While it's not a total washout, the island will be quieter, and the water might be a bit choppier — it's not the best time for all those outdoor activities that make the island famous.
In short, go during the dry season for the full Lembongan experience.
How long should you stay in Nusa Lembongan?
Are there enough days to stay in paradise?
Probably not. But unless you have nowhere to go and no commitments, you'll need to make a plan.
Three days are plenty to see it all and still enjoy the slow pace of island life. But be warned, your three days might turn into a week or a month.
Where should you travel after Nusa Lembongan?
The answer depends on which direction you want to travel. Head west to Kusamba in Bali. It's only a 30-minute ferry ride.
Going east? Grab a three-hour ferry to Lombok. Lombok is for you if you're into stunning beaches, vibrant culture, and jaw-dropping natural beauty, all without the heavy crowds of Bali.
