Italy’s Aeolian Islands are a real treat for anyone interested in volcanic landscapes and stunning views over the Tyrrhenian Sea. Lipari, the largest of the archipelago, is absolutely no exception.

Visitors to Lipari will often come for day trips, but there are also plenty of places to stay if you’re looking for a deeper experience. Some of the beaches are really beautiful and enjoying a spritz as the sun sinks into the ocean is always an enjoyable way to end each and every day.

But when you’ve toured Lipari and need to get back to Sicily, the ferry to Milazzo is your best bet.

There are usually around nine ferry departures throughout the day, operated by two different service providers Liberty Lines and Siremar. Vessels are modern and have lots of space to walk around.

Tickets for Liberty Lines’ high-speed ferry start from US$26. You’ll find a washroom onboard as well as an air-conditioned seating area and a bar serving food and drinks. Unfortunately, there isn’t any outside seating on this type of boat.

This high-speed ferry takes approximately an hour to get to Sicily. So it’s handy if you need to make it back before nightfall.

If you’re looking for the best way to get from Lipari to Milazzo for the lowest price, a ticket on Siremar’s tourist ferry only costs US$17. This boat has both an air-conditioned cabin and an outdoor sun deck. It also has a bathroom and a food and drinks kiosk.

This tourist ferry takes around two hours to get back to Sicily. So sit back and enjoy some sun on the outdoor decking area.

Both the high-speed and tourist ferries are well equipped with safety gear. They have been operating around Sicily and the Aeolian Islands for some time. It’s a popular day trip option and certainly worth considering if you’re on vacation.
