About the ride from Positano to Capri

There are many reasons to visit Capri: the spas, the glamor, and the gelato are just a few. The island has great natural beauty, with mountains to hike and limestone grottos to swim in. The 30-minute ferry ride from Positano is convenient and easy, meaning there’s no real reason to miss Capri out if you’re exploring Campania.

The only way to reach Capri is by boat, as there’s no airport on the island. Three ferries are available through Bookaway on this route, taking around 30 - 40 minutes and leaving throughout the day. You’ll need to make the journey on foot because cars are not allowed on the island for most of the year. If you’re traveling in a group or as a family you can also reach the island by private boat.

All boats leave Positano from the jetty next to the town beach and arrive on the Capri at the jetty in front of Via Marina Grande. From here, you can take a taxi, bus, or the funicular to the center of Capri Town, or walk, which takes around 20 minutes.

Speedboat ferry

The Speedboat Ferry is a small boat operated by an experienced company on the Amalfi Coast. There’s both indoor and outdoor seating; if you want to take photos, it’s easier from the outside deck. There’s a fee of $3 for every suitcase brought on board.

By high speed ferry

The High Speed Ferries on this route are slightly larger and are equipped with bathrooms and seating in an air-conditioned cabin or on an outdoor deck. The ride takes 30 or 40 minutes depending on the boat.There’s no fee for a small bag (50 cm x 30 cm x 15 cm) but there’s a fee for larger baggage brought on board.

By private speedboat

If you’re celebrating something special or just fancy experiencing full-on, film star glamor then you can also travel to Capri by private speedboat. The Speedboat by Lucibello can carry a maximum of 8 people and if your hotel has a jetty, will take you straight there.

Try to avoid bringing large suitcases on a trip to Capri. The baggage allowance on the ferries is strict and you’ll have to pay a fee to bring bags on board, plus, heavy bags will be difficult to carry on foot to your hotel once you’re on the island.

Ferries can be crowded especially in high season. If you’re traveling on a public holiday then you should definitely book your tickets in advance.

When you arrive on Capri you will be asked to pay a landing fee of €2.50 (US $3) per person.
