The distance from Nazca Lines to Lima is 280 miles (450 km).

Most travelers take a double-decker bus and travel time is around 6-7.5 hours. There are both day and night departures so it’s super convenient. Ticket prices start from about $20 per person. 

If you prefer a little more luxury, you could also book a private taxi to get to Lima. 

There is no Nazca to Lima train.

 

What to see when traveling from Nazca to Lima

The ride from Nazca to Lima is known for its good roads and is one of the best rides in Peru. Flat, desert landscapes are primarily what you’ll see on your journey. Once you enter Lima, the Pacific Ocean welcomes you with its sparkling blue waters. 

A little less than 3-hours drive north of Nazca is the desert oasis of Huacachina. It’s a village built around a shimmering green lagoon and set amid tall palm trees and imposing sand dunes. It’s the ideal spot to ride dune buggies and go sandboarding!

Known as the poor man’s Galapagos, Paracas is another popular stop-over point. Take a boat tour of the Islas Ballestas, which is part of the Paracas National Reserve and is home to a fascinating array of wildlife. Grab your binoculars and cameras and spot Humboldt penguins, noisy sea lions, blue-footed boobies, and if you are lucky, even humpback whales!

 

How to get from Nazca to Lima

Taking a bus from Nazca to Lima

While most Nazca to Lima buses have daytime departures, a few nighttime departures are available, too – a good choice for budget travelers who want to save on hotel costs. Travel time varies, according to the operator, from six to seven and a half hours. Ticket prices range from around $20 to $60, depending on the operator and the class of seats chosen.

The majority of the buses are double-deckers with comfortable, reclining seats, suitable for relaxing and getting some much-needed shut-eye after a day or two of sightseeing in Nazca. The buses have seats with 130°, 140°, or even 160° recline, depending on the operator and ticket price. 

Seats are arranged in a two-by-two or two-by-one format allowing passengers ample space to stretch their legs and relax. 

All buses are air-conditioned, and many have toilets. But they still make rest stops. 

Many operators provide blankets, but it’s best to carry something warm in your hand luggage in case it gets too cold.

Bottled water and a packaged meal are provided to passengers with the option to pre-book a vegetarian meal with some operators. 

Most operators offer point-to-point services from Nazca to Lima. But if you prefer to take a break and visit some of the popular tourist attractions en route, other options are available. 

Peru Hop offers travelers a hop-on-hop-off service with a single bus pass. Travelers can break their journey at Paracas or Huacachina, go sightseeing for a day or two, and then hop back on a Peru Hop bus and keep going. These buses offer hotel pick up and drop off, and the tickets are valid for a year. 

Some of the popular Nazca Lines to Lima bus operators are Oltursa, Cruz del Sur, Tepsa, and Peru Hop. 

The 160° Reclining Seats Bus by Cruz del Sur has a six-hour travel time and is the fastest option. 

With ticket prices starting from $22 per person, the 140° Reclining Seats Bus by Oltursa is the cheapest option making it a good pick for budget-conscious travelers. 

With departures happening at least every hour, taking a bus is a convenient option for those looking to travel from Nazca Lines to Lima.

 

Taking a taxi

Though taking a bus is the most preferred mode, you could also get to Lima from Nazca by hiring a private taxi. Expectedly, it’s more expensive than a bus ticket. This option is ideal for those who prefer more flexibility in their travel itinerary. Since it includes hotel pick up and drop off and allows you to choose your departure times, it’s perfect for families and couples who don’t mind spending a little extra for the added comfort and convenience.
