About the Journey from Oslob to Panglao

So you’ve just seen whale sharks in Oslob. Now what?

It’s hard to top those giant, magnificent creatures. But if you take a two-hour ferry from Oslob to Panglao, you’ll get to see the tiny alien-like tarsier, which is only found on a few islands around the world.

When you’re not busy being transfixed by the tarsiers, you can splash about in waterfalls, relax on the beach, go diving, or take a day trip to Bohol to view the famous Chocolate Hills.

It’s a good thing that getting from Oslob, at the southern tip of Cebu, to Panglao, an island in the Bohol region, couldn’t be easier. Simply hop on a ferry for two hours, and you’ll be at your next destination.

You depart from Quartel Beach in Oslob and arrive at Momo Beach in Panglao.

Keep reading to find out everything you need to know about taking the ferry from Oslob to Panglao and what to do when you get there.

Amazing things to do in Panglao

Panglao gained a spot on Philippine itineraries mainly for two reasons — the Chocolate Hills and tarsiers. Funnily enough, both activities are found on the neighboring island of Bohol. Since it’s connected by a bridge, most people stay in Panglao and visit from there.

Check out more of our must-do things in Panglao and Bohol:

  • Visit a tarsier sanctuary. You may never have heard of them, but you must see these little creatures in real life. They are awesome alien-like creatures you can’t help but be fascinated by. These rare primates have unique characteristics that are very fun to learn about at one of the tarsier sanctuaries.

  • Explore the Chocolate Hills. The Chocolate Hills are a must-see natural wonder located on nearby Bohol Island. These unique geological formations consist of thousands of cone-shaped hills covered in green grass that turns chocolate brown during the dry season

  • Relax on the beach. Alona Beach is the most popular in Panglao, known for its white sand and clear waters. You can relax on the beach or take on one of the many water sports available, like kayaking or paddle boarding. Other beaches to check out include White Beach, Dumaluan Beach, and Momo Beach.

  • Go diving. Panglao is renowned for its underwater biodiversity. Its vibrant coral reefs and a variety of marine species, including turtles, tropical fish, and whale sharks, draw divers from all over the world.

Hinagdanan Cave is a limestone cave with a hidden underground pool. Descend into the cave and admire its unique rock formations and crystal-clear pool, perfect for swimming.

How to get from Oslob to Panglao

The only way to get from Oslob to Panglao is by hopping on a ferry.

The ferry leaves from Quartel Beach in Oslob and arrives at Momo Beach in Panglao, taking around two hours to cover the 37 km of sea.

Pro tip: Small boats shuttle passengers to and from the ferry, picking them up from the beach. Your feet may get a little wet when transferring boats and arriving on the beach, so it’s best to wear shoes that won't be ruined by water.

For those traveling with baggage heavier than 10 kg, you’ll need to pay an additional 100-150 PHP.

What to expect from the journey from Oslob to Panglao

The journey from Oslob to Panglao might not be your most comfortable ferry ride in the Philippines.

The benches on the ferry are hard, with no cushioning, but thankfully, it’s only a 2-hour ride. Your butt shouldn’t be aching too much by the end!

Sit back and enjoy the ride as Mother Nature’s air conditioning, the sea breeze, keeps you cool.

The seating is open air, but the “windows” can be closed by plastic sheets if water starts splashing in or it's raining.

You’ll find a toilet on board, plus drinks and snacks for purchase.

When is the best time to visit Panglao?

Panglao is a beach destination, so it’s pretty important to know that the wet season runs from July to October. Be prepared for the occasional downpour when sitting on the beach if you visit during these months.

The best time to visit is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to April. The sun is shining during these months, and there's minimal rainfall.

December and February are particularly popular, with pleasant temperatures, around 30°C (86°F), and calm seas.

How many days should you spend in Panglao?

Panglao has more to offer than most realize. Connected by a bridge to Bohol, you not only have Panglao Island to discover but Bohol too.

There are enough activities, beaches, and waterfalls to keep you busy for at least a week. But we get it. There are so many Philippine islands to explore you may not want to set aside that many days.

So, if you’re short on time, three days should allow you to see the best of Panglao.

Where should you visit after Panglao?

Your next destination after Panglao should be Siquijor, the up-and-coming star. This island is rapidly growing in popularity, but unlike some other islands in the Philippines, it isn’t quite swarmed with tourists yet.

Siqijor has a reputation as a magical island, home to witches, healers, and black magic. You can visit some of the faith healers and experience the magic yourself.

Even if you don’t believe in this kind of stuff, the beauty of the island's beaches, waterfall, and jungle is enchanting enough for a few days.
