You should plan your visit to Can Tho for when the Cai Rang floating market will be busy. After all, it’s probably why you’re going in the first place. So shoot for April or May when all the tropical fruits are picked from the surrounding orchards, and the rains are pretty light.
There are no trains or flights. Transport from Rach Gia to Can Tho is only overland. Not to worry, though, because the ride is actually pretty beautiful.
The distance from Rach Gia to Can Tho is about 115 km (~ miles) so expect a four-hour bus ride or a two-hour taxi or motorcycle ride.
Pro tip – try to get a window seat. That way, you’ll be able to watch the impressive landscapes, especially the rice paddies, as they go by.
How to get from Rach Gia to Can Tho
Traveling by bus, car, or motorcycle are your only options to get you to the capital of the Mekong Delta. The bus takes twice as long as a taxi or private transfer, but it’s a fraction of the price.
That’s why the bus is probably the best way to travel from Rach Gia to Can Tho.
However, if you prefer your own space or are traveling with a crew, the private transfer may be for you.
It’s also possible to ride a motorbike between the two cities. This is definitely the most adventurous option, but traveling by motorcycle is very popular across Vietnam. It’s a great way to take in all the incredible scenery and delve into the local culture.

Bus
The Rach Gia to Can Tho bus is the perfect transport option to save some money.

Futa Bus operates a tourist bus, starting at US$8 per person. The bus has AC, reclining seats, and even WiFi. There are five departures per day, so you’re bound to find a time that works with your schedule.
While there is no bathroom on the bus, the driver will stop so you can use the restroom and stretch your legs.
Your luggage allowance is limited to 20 kgs with this company, so make sure you haven’t overpacked. You’re allowed one suitcase or backpack and a carry-on.
Pro tip – you must go to the bus ticketing agent in Rach Gia and exchange your electronic ticket for a paper ticket. Don’t forget about this step, as many drivers won’t let you board the bus if you don’t have a physical ticket.
Taxi/Private transfer
If you have the money to spare, a taxi or private transfer is a great way to cover the Rach Gia to Can Tho distance.
While these rides can be pricey, starting at US$80, they will cut your travel time in half. You also get picked up and dropped off directly at your hotels, and you can stop anytime you like.

Motorbike
It is notoriously difficult for foreigners to rent a car in Vietnam, but motorbikes seem to pose very few problems for international travelers. All you need is a driver’s license and the cash to pay for the bike.
You can check with local bike rental shops to see if you can rent a motorbike and drive it to your final destination. Dropping the bikes off in a different place may be a problem, but if you already have your bike or plan to return to Rach Gia, this could work.
The ride from Rach Gia to Can Tho is breathtaking, and the main highway takes you most of the way. The road is in pretty good condition.
