About the ride from Krabi to Koh Lipe
Koh Lipe is a haven of pristine coral reefs, and spits of white sand off which colorful long-tail boats are moored. If the most energetic things you want to do are snorkeling and sunset-gazing, Ko Lipe is perfect. There's somewhere to stay for every budget, from beach bungalows to luxury resorts.
To get to Koh Lipe from Krabi, you need to take a bus and a ferry. The journey can take 8 hours depending on which operator you choose. With Bookaway, you can take the High-Speed Ferry, a large boat with an outside deck, or a speedboat, which is faster but less smooth. With the speedboat option a minivan will collect you from your hotel in Krabi, the airport, bus station, or the beach.
What to see when traveling from Krabi to Koh Lipe?
The ride is quite scenic: as you head down the coast, the sea is dotted with limestone karsts. If you choose the speedboat option, you'll find it trickier to see the view or take photos. Take the ferry for a more relaxed experience.
How to get from Krabi to Koh Lipe
Taking the high-speed Ferry
The High-Speed Ferry leaves from Klong Jilad pier - take a shared taxi or motorbike taxi from Krabi Town. You might want a seasick tablet handy, as the ride can be a little bumpy. When you arrive on Koh Lipe, the ferry will stop at the Koh Lipe Floating Pier and you'll jump on a long tail boat to the island.
Taking a bus + ferry
The combination ticket includes a minivan from Krabi Town, the airport bus station or beach to the Pier, followed by a speedboat to Koh Lipe. The speedboat is fast and a little hair-raising if the sea is choppy. When you arrive on Koh Lipe you'll transfer from the Floating Pier to a long tail boat and arrive on the island the tradditional way!
Additional information to know before you go
As the island is within Tarutao National Park, everyone has to pay a 200 Baht (US $6) fee on arrival. Have some small change handy for the long tail boat driver when you get to the Floating Pier.
