How to get from Da Nang to Nha Trang
You have five options for planning your trip from Da Nang to Nha Trang — a bus, train, flight, car or minivan.
They all have their pros and cons.
Here are the details:
Bus
Travel time: 9-13 hours
Starting prices: $14
Buses run between Da Nang and Nha Trang multiple times a day.
There are a few different ticket classes you can choose from. No matter how much you want to spend on your ticket, you can expect to at least have AC, reclining seats, and a blanket provided for you.
You have the option to travel overnight, which would save you a night's accommodation.
Each bus company departs and arrives at different places, so pay attention to those details when booking.
Sleeping bus
This is the cheapest and most basic option, but don't let that fool you! A sleeping bus ticket still gets you plenty of amenities. You'll have reclining seats, AC, WiFi (when available), and a blanket and pillow provided for you.
The seats are pretty comfortable, so you can rest on your way to the beautiful beaches.
It is important to note that the seats will be reclined for the entire journey. Come ready to stretch out and relax.
VIP sleeping bus
VIP sleeping buses are a little more comfortable than standard ones because the seats are slightly spread out.
You'll still get AC, bottles of water, and a blanket on this bus,
Cabin bus
Cabin buses have seats that are partially enclosed, giving you a sense of more privacy than a sleeping bus seat.
These tickets include similar amenities, like AC, reclining seats, water, and a TV.
No matter which ticket you book, buses make a few stops along the way so you can stretch your legs and use the bathroom. The ride is long, so come prepared with your favorite podcast, a book, or something downloaded on Netflix.
Train
Travel time: 10-12 hours
Starting prices: $20
When taking the train, you can book a seat or a bed in a sleeper cabin. The ride is pretty comfortable, no matter which ticket you book. Trains are all air-conditioned, have WCs, and most provide blankets and pillows, especially the sleeper tickets.
Second-class seat (tickets start at $20)
Second-class train seats are set up like those of typical trains around the world. There are four seats around a shared table. You'll have your own seat but must share the table with those sitting next to you.
You should note that some seats will travel backward, so plan accordingly if you get motion sickness.
This is, by far, the cheapest option, but also the least comfortable on the 10-11-hour journey.
Second-class sleeper train (tickets start around $35)
Second-class sleeper cabins provide three bunk beds, with all six beds kitted out with sheets and pillows. Individual cabins have a small table to share and space for you to rest and relax in your bed.
You can book a single ticket and share the cabin with other travelers or book all six beds if you are exploring Vietnam with friends.
The train has AC and bathrooms on board but does not offer WiFi. Come prepared with your own entertainment if you don't plan on immediately catching some z's.
First-class sleeper train (tickets start around $43)
First-class sleeper train tickets are almost exactly the same as second-class, except there are four bunk beds per cabin instead of six.
This is great news if you dread climbing to that third tier or don't want to share with so many people. You also get a bit more room in your bed, making it easier to sit up and relax without hitting your head on the bed above you or the ceiling.
Cabin 2 x train (tickets start at $76 per person)
Two-person cabins are the perfect way to travel if you have a buddy or you don't like sharing your personal space with others.
These tickets allow you to book out the entire cabin, which is equipped with two beds. Pillows and blankets are provided and you have access to the bathroom in the main part of the train.
This option is more expensive, but the comfort and privacy might be worth it.
Fly
Travel time: One hour and fifteen minutes
Starting price: $101
If overland travel isn't your thing, you can hop on a one-hour and fifteen-minute flight to get you from Da Nang to Nha Trang. You depart from Da Nang Airport and arrive at Cam Ranh Airport, a further 45-minute drive to the city center.
Private car
Travel time: About nine hours
Price for the car: $375
If you're traveling with a small group of up to three people, renting a car with a driver might be the best option for you.
Not only is the ride private, you'll get dropped off at the hotel of your choice. You'll depart at a time of your choosing from the supplier's office.
You'll be allowed two large (20 kg/44 lb) bags per person and can add a baby seat for $5 if needed.
Private minivan
Travel time: About nine hours
Price for the minivan: $442
A private minivan can hold up to eight people, ideal for a larger party. The more people you have, the less each pays, making the journey more affordable and luxurious.
You'll depart from the supplier's office whenever you choose and get dropped off at your hotel in Nha Trang. If you happen to be staying in Hoi An, you can get picked up at your hotel as well.

If you opt for a bus ticket and travel during the day, try to get a seat by the window. The journey takes you along the coast, and there are some pretty spectacular views along the way.
Keep in mind that all bus seats are set up like bunk beds. Be sure to book a seat on the top or bottom based on your preference or board early if you cannot set your choice beforehand.

Avoid traveling to Nha Trang between September and December, as this is typhoon season when it rains the most.
Where to go after Nha Trang
Once you've had your fill of the sun, sand, and sea, you may be ready for a change of scenery. Why not head to the mountainous city of Da Lat? The misty, majestic peaks are a sight to behold, and the trip from Nha Trang to Da Lat is probably one of the prettiest in Vietnam.
