What to see when traveling from Halong Bay to Da Nang
If you're traveling from Halong Bay, you've probably already sampled many of the beaches and warm shallow waters of the South China Sea. Heading south to Da Nang by bus takes you along the main coastal highway and offers lots of glimpses of white sand along the way.
The distance from Halong Bay to Da Nang is 560 kilometers (347 miles) – but don't expect to be treated to idyllic coastal images all the way. You’ll pass many large towns and cities, like Ninh Binh, Vinh and Hue, on the way. It's a good chance to see life in the suburbs and urban outskirts.
Depending on what time you depart, you might be able to see a whole day's worth of Vietnam before it gets dark. Some buses leave in the morning and travel through the day and the night. Watch out for the urban areas and historic towns as these can be really fascinating. If you’re lucky, you’ll also be able to catch the sunset and sunrise.
It’s a good idea to organize accommodation before you leave Halong Bay. You won't want to search around for a place to stay after just getting off a 15-18 hour overnight bus ride. Not fun!
